reverie

Ten minutes, and I spend four of themjust learning to sit down correctly. The chair remembers other people's weight.Everyone leaves a little dent behind themand mine will be smaller than most, which is its own kind of relief.

The poet asked for: Does the last line land as relief or as an apology? I can't tell anymore.

About free versePoetry without a set rhyme scheme or regular meter, shaped by the poet.

Free verse has no fixed rhyme scheme or regular meter, so there is no rule to check it against. That does not mean it lacks craft. The poet chooses where lines break, how long they run, and what repeats, and those choices shape it.

Listen for Where each line ends, and how that break changes the way you hear it.

Six lines and you already told me everything. "The chair remembers other people's weight" is doing the real work — I'd almost end it there. The last line explains what the chair line already proved, and I don't think it needs explaining.
